RETURNS, REFUNDS & EXCHANGES POLICY

Last Updated: 20 October 2026

At Bargain City, we are committed to supplying quality smartphones and providing reliable customer service. We specialise in brand-new sealed smartphones and premium-quality Grade A second-hand iPhones.

This policy explains our approach to returns, replacements, exchanges and refunds for purchases made through https://bargaincity.co.za.

1. Contact Details

Business Name: Bargain City
Website: https://bargaincity.co.za
Email: Bargaincityma7@gmail.com
WhatsApp / Phone: 074 222 2987

Customers must contact Bargain City before returning a product so that we can review the matter and explain the appropriate return procedure.

2. Seven-Day Grace Period

Customers must notify Bargain City of a return, replacement or refund request within seven days of receiving their product wherever this policy applies.

For a change-of-mind return that Bargain City agrees to accept, the phone must be returned in the same condition in which it was supplied, with its original packaging, accessories and documentation where applicable.

The phone must not have been damaged, altered or misused after delivery.

The seven-day grace period does not override or reduce any statutory cooling-off period or other consumer rights provided by South African law. Where a different statutory period or remedy applies, the relevant legal requirements will take precedence.

3. Our Refund Policy

Bargain City generally does not offer discretionary refunds simply because a customer changes their mind, no longer wants the phone or decides to purchase a different model.

Refunds are not automatic and will be considered individually, taking into account the circumstances of the request, the condition of the phone, the time elapsed since delivery and applicable South African consumer law.

Where a customer reports a genuine problem with a phone, Bargain City will generally aim to resolve the matter through a replacement where appropriate and legally permitted.

A refund may be considered where the circumstances justify it or where a refund is required by law.

Any request for a discretionary refund should be submitted within the applicable seven-day grace period. This does not restrict statutory rights that may apply outside that period.

4. Genuine Product Problems and Replacements

If a phone develops a serious technical problem, is defective, is incorrectly supplied or does not match its advertised description, the customer must contact Bargain City as soon as reasonably possible.

Please provide:

  • Your order number or proof of purchase.

  • A clear description of the problem.

  • Photographs or videos where appropriate.

  • The phone model and relevant identifying details.

Bargain City may request that the phone be returned for inspection to establish the nature and cause of the problem.

Where a genuine problem is confirmed, our preferred approach is to replace the phone with a suitable replacement where available and appropriate.

If a replacement is unavailable, unsuitable or not the remedy required by applicable law, another appropriate remedy, including a repair or refund, may apply.

A replacement will not be imposed where South African law entitles the customer to a different remedy.

5. Brand-New Sealed Phones

Brand-new phones are advertised as sealed where stated in the product listing.

Customers should check the model, storage capacity, colour and product description before purchasing.

For discretionary change-of-mind returns, Bargain City generally requires the phone to remain in its original sealed condition and packaging.

Opened sealed-box phones are generally not eligible for discretionary change-of-mind refunds. However, if a genuine defect or other qualifying problem is discovered after opening the box, customers should contact Bargain City for an assessment.

Opening the original seal does not automatically remove any statutory rights relating to defective goods, incorrect products or qualifying online purchase cancellations.

Where a genuine problem is established, Bargain City will consider an appropriate remedy in accordance with applicable law.

6. Premium Grade A Second-Hand iPhones

Bargain City sells premium-quality Grade A second-hand iPhones selected for their condition, functionality and overall presentation.

Our second-hand iPhones are intended to meet a high quality standard. We aim to supply devices with battery health above 85% at the time of inspection, unless a specific product listing expressly states otherwise.

Battery health may decrease naturally with normal use over time.

Customers should carefully review the advertised condition and specifications before completing their purchase.

Normal cosmetic wear consistent with the advertised Grade A condition does not automatically qualify as a defect. However, an undisclosed defect or qualifying technical fault will be assessed in accordance with applicable consumer protection law.

7. Conditions That May Affect a Product Claim

A product may require further inspection where there are signs of:

  • Accidental damage or impact.

  • A cracked screen.

  • Liquid damage.

  • Unauthorised repairs or modifications.

  • Misuse or damage occurring after delivery.

These circumstances may affect warranty coverage where the damage caused the problem or falls within a lawful warranty exclusion.

They will not automatically invalidate a claim where the fault is unrelated or the customer has a protected legal right.

8. Return Conditions and Delivery Arrangements

Customers must contact Bargain City before sending a phone back.

Our available delivery arrangements include The Courier Guy's PUDO locker-to-locker service, The Courier Guy store collection and PostNet-to-PostNet delivery, subject to availability and agreed arrangements.

We will explain the appropriate return procedure before the product is sent back.

For discretionary change-of-mind returns accepted by Bargain City, the customer may be responsible for applicable return delivery costs where lawful and agreed in advance.

Where a return relates to a qualifying defect or an error by Bargain City, responsibility for return costs will be determined in accordance with applicable law.

Customers should retain their tracking information and proof of dispatch.

9. Refund Processing

Where Bargain City approves a discretionary refund or a refund is required by law, we will communicate the applicable process to the customer.

A Store credit refund will be given if the product is faulty and matches the terms.

Where a replacement is agreed upon, Bargain City will communicate the replacement arrangements and any relevant delivery details to the customer.

10. Personal Handling of Exchanges and Refunds

Personal Assessment and Contact

Bargain City will personally assess all requests for exchanges, replacements, store credit and refunds. Customers must contact Bargain City directly via WhatsApp on 074 222 2987 within seven days of receiving their product to report a problem, subject to any additional rights provided by applicable South African law.

Bargain City will review each request individually, taking into account the nature of the reported problem, the condition of the phone, the results of any inspection and whether the phone has been damaged, misused, altered or tampered with by the customer after delivery.

Bargain City’s Preferred Resolution

Where a genuine product problem is confirmed and the customer has not caused the damage, Bargain City’s preferred resolution will generally be an exchange or replacement with a suitable device, where available and appropriate.

Where Bargain City determines that store credit is an appropriate and legally permitted resolution, the customer may receive credit to use towards the purchase of another device from Bargain City.

Bargain City will communicate its assessment and proposed resolution directly to the customer via WhatsApp. However, where applicable South African law gives the customer the right to choose a particular remedy, that legal right will take precedence over Bargain City’s preference.

Refund Eligibility

Cash refunds are not automatic and will be assessed in accordance with this policy and applicable South African consumer protection law.

Where a customer qualifies for a refund under applicable law, Bargain City will provide the legally required remedy. Store credit will only be offered in place of a refund where legally permitted and accepted by the customer.

Customer-Caused Damage

If an inspection establishes that the reported problem was caused by customer damage, misuse, liquid damage, unauthorised repairs or other damage occurring after delivery, the request may be declined where the damage caused the fault and the refusal is permitted by law.

Third-Party Payment Providers

Bargain City will personally manage all product-related complaints and communicate directly with customers via WhatsApp. Third-party payment providers are not responsible for assessing product faults or deciding whether a customer qualifies for an exchange, replacement, store credit or refund on behalf of Bargain City.

11. Customer Responsibilities Before Returning a Phone

Before returning a phone, customers should, where possible:

  • Back up their personal information.

  • Remove their SIM card and memory card.

  • Sign out of personal accounts.

  • Disable device-locking features such as Find My iPhone, where appropriate.

  • Remove personal data and security locks where reasonably necessary for inspection.

Customers should never provide their banking passwords or confidential banking credentials.

Customers are responsible for backing up their personal data before returning a phone.

12. Consumer Protection and Legal Rights

This policy is governed by applicable South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and, where relevant, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.

Depending on the circumstances, consumers may have statutory rights relating to defective products, online purchase cancellations, repairs, replacements and refunds.

Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or waive any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If any part of this policy conflicts with a mandatory legal requirement, the applicable legal requirement will take precedence.
